How Does Dermaplaning Work?
On a daily basis your skin is exposed to harsh elements, from environmental toxins to sun damage, which in turn makes the skin appear dull and aged. Dermaplaning is a noninvasive, exfoliating skin treatment that manually removes dead skin cells and vellus hair from the face. Before the procedure the skin is cleansed to remove any bacteria, oil and dirt. A specialty beauty oil is then applied to the skin to ensure a smooth treatment with no tugging at the skin. While holding the skin taut, a sterile 10-gauge blade is passed across the skin at a 45-degree angle. This removes the top layer of dead skin revealing newer skin under the surface. After this, your skin will be wiped down with a warm towel to cleanse.
Does Dermaplaning Hurt?
Dermaplaning is a completely painless procedure! Although a medical grade scalpel is used it is simply glided across the skin so that no incision is ever made. Specialty beauty oil is applied to reduce the friction of the blade so it doesn’t tug at the skin but still remain effective at skimming the outermost layer of dead skin.
Is Dermaplaning safe?
This treatment is extremely safe when performed by an experience Medical Esthetician. It is non-invasive and safe for pregnant and nursing women.
Will My Hair Grow Back Thicker?
The most common question we get asked is will my hair come back thicker. No! It is impossible for the vellus hair (peach fuzz) to grow back thicker or darker. This hair when cut or removed will grow back the same, as the structure of the hair is not damaged.
How Often Should I Dermaplane?
We recommend dermaplaning be performed monthly. The exfoliation is key to maintaining a healthy skincare regimen. The treatment is able to remove 21 days worth of dead skin cells and vellus hair. It is best to ensure that your skin can complete its full rejuvenation cycle prior to your next dermaplaning treatment.
The results of dermaplaning are immediate! You’ll notice your skin brighter, smoother and rejuvenated. Individual results will depend on your skins cell turnover rate but typically results last between three to four weeks.
